Canucks Autism Network (CAN) Training: Making Positive Environments in Recreation
This training will provide staff with the tools, techniques and best practices to create inclusive sport, recreation and physical activity experiences for youth from marginalized populations.
Want to start volunteering or working in daycamps? This workshop will give individuals insight into expectations, protocols and tips and tools that you can use once you start daycamps as a leader. Focus will be on group management, interview and resume skills and how to engage as a volunteer in camps.
Emergency First Aid CPR/AED
Simple First-Aid and CPR techniques taught in an interactive environment, for individuals who want an overview of First-Aid and CPR for home or in the workplace. The course covers skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies for adults and other topics such as choking, airway and breathing emergencies in babies and children (CPR C) and AED certification. Canadian Red Cross certificate valid for 3 years upon completion.
Food Safe Level 1
A food-handling, sanitation and work safety course designed for food service establishment operators and front-line food service workers such as cooks, servers, bussers, dishwashers, and deli workers. The course covers important food safety and worker safety information including foodborne illness, receiving and storing food, preparing food, serving food, cleaning and sanitizing.
HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development
This training will help front-line leaders (anyone working with children aged 6-12) to improve quality of programs. It provides in-depth training in the HIGH FIVE principles of healthy child development so front-line leaders understand what they need to do to ensure each child’s social, emotional and cognitive needs are met. Topics also include bullying, conflict resolution, physical literacy, children’s mental health and moderate to vigorous physical activity.
HIGH FIVE: Strengthening Children’s Mental Health
This one-day in-person training, developed in collaboration with the Ontario Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association will help anyone running children’s programs be more informed and prepared to support their staff in promoting positive mental health in children. Participants will learn key concepts and factors that affect children’s mental health including the impact of stress and environment on a child’s ability to cope. This training will provide tools and suggested activities to use with staff to help improve their understanding and interactions with children who face challenges in their programs.
K&K Group Management
By the end of the Group Management workshop, participants should be able to: Create value-based rules for a group setting; Identify and implement diverse methods of getting and keeping participants’ attention; Identify and utilize different group formations for instructional and activity periods; Consider positioning of the instructor when giving instructions; Engage in various activities to activate, energize, and re-focus groups; Design limits for activities; Identify different causes of participant misbehaviour; Choose strategies to deal with behaviour-based on evaluation of cause.
Money Smarts: Financial Literacy by ShEvalesco
It’s never too early to be money smart! This interactive and hands-on workshop will explore key issues related to financial literacy: bank accounts and services [what is my money doing?], credit cards [I have to pay WHAT in interest?], paycheques [where did my hard-earned money go?] and other key money-related life skills. Come prepared for a fun and active workshop that will give you a leg up for the financial road ahead.
This training is designed to prepare individuals to step into their role as mentor with clarity of purpose, and confidence in their actions. The training reaffirms and strengthens their abilities and skills as a mentor, while expanding upon the mentor’s knowledge of the mentoring process. Completing the training will provide the mentor with standards and protocols for the implementation of mentoring within their coaching community.
NCCP Teaching and Learning
Following this module you will be able to: assess you own beliefs regarding effective teaching; analyze certain coaching situations to determine if they promote learning; create conditions that promote learning and self-esteem through: appropriate consideration of the effective, cognitive, and motor dimensions of learning, the use of words and methods that relate to an athlete’s preferred learning style, a sound organization, active supervision, and the use of well-informed feedback offered at the right time with the right frequency. Use teaching assessment grids to gather objective information on teaching effectiveness, and use the data to develop an action plan to enhance your own effectiveness as a teacher and coach.
Vancouver Parks Board Access and Inclusion Training
Parks Board Access and Inclusion workshop that goes through the Jumpstart Coaching Module on behaviour support, as it gives a whole toolkit for leaders to use. Will bring in some participant profiles for participants to work through and ask what resources and tools leaders would like us to provide for lessons moving forward. Will also lead some games to demonstrate exclusion, inclusion and integration.
Young Workers: Know Your Right
The Alive After Five Young Worker Awareness Program of the BC Federation of Labour is an innovative initiative that seeks to make the province a healthier and safer place to live and work for all of us. This occupational health and safety presentations will provide dynamic and insightful information on vital subjects such as: Hazard recognition, Knowing your Rights Responsibilities in the workplace, How to properly report injuries, What protections are provided by the WCB Regulations.
